  • Q. [CAMERA] Why does IMI-TECH use more than one brand of sensors?

IMI-TECH cameras mostly make use of Sony sensors.
We have adopted the technologically most appropriate sensors as several manufacturer's sensors have their own strong and weak points.
When you choose a CMOS sensor, you should take into account the type of its contrivance, resolution, the size of Pixel, the size of sensor color or BW, frame rate, spectrum sensitivity and other technological properties.
  • Q. [THE REST] What differentiates IMI-TECH from other camera manufacturers…

We produce unique choice articles based on outstanding quality and constant reliability supported by our own high-precision production facilities and our skilled research manpower.
And through decades of digital camera system manufacturing and customer service experiences, we are apt to give reasonable solutions to problems and are always at customers' service.
That's why we are said to be ahead of foreign industries in A/S and customer support.
  • Q. [CAMERA] How can I find out the very camera I want to have among IMI …

IMI-TECH digital camera line provides various options including CMOS cameras with 640x480 to 24Mega resolution.
We have cameras with various sizes of pixel and frame rates, various BW or colors, and multiple form factors.
If you inquire IMI-TECH of cameras, an expert system designer will discuss your application requirements with you and, as occasion demands, may recommended a particular camera.
We provide various applications including vision, medical science, ITS, sports analysis, serveillance, thermal imaging, etc.
  • Q. [CAMERA] What influence does the size pixel have on camera?

Above all, the size of the pixel is proportionate to pixel's surface area which can integrate a camera's sensitivity and the photon of light.
Most people use micron square pixel, and we manufacture various products with pixel size from 1.2um to 5.86um.
The product group with larger pixel size has superior efficiency in sensitivity.
  • Q. [THE REST] Would you define the depth of bit?

The depth of bit refers to the number of signal bits available that camera provides.
In a 8-bit camera, each pixel integrates 256 gray level colors from black to white. A 10-bit camera has 1,000 gray level colors and a 12-bit camera has 4,000 grey level colors.
Even though a camera has been designed as a 12-bit analogue -digital converter, this camera can not really provide 4,000 grey level colors. Many things vary, in accordance with the quality and layout of sensor, the quality of electronic components, the quality and layout of camera, signal transmittance speed, temperature and external intervention.
  • Q. [THE REST] What is partial scanning?

A partial scanning is designed to run at a certain number of whole frames per second.
Often, the user is willing to trade off resolution for frame rate. The simplest strategy is to divide the active area by row.
By cutting the frame in half horizontally, the camera can usually run at almost twice the full frame rate.
Reducing the side of interest field is another effective strategy to increase frame rate.
And USB3.0 can put images together as if you heap up the horizontally divided areas like stacks and then output them.
It is a function that enables the user to extract, gather, and see only the areas he or she want to see. Such a function can reduce much time in inspection.
  • Q. [CAMERA] Is the camera output GigE, USB3.0 or IP?

Vision cameras mostly support the interface of GigE or USB3.0. GigE and USB3.0 differs in the number of frames they send per second.
If you want high speed we recommend USB3.0. If the amount of data the camera sends is within 1 Gigabit, we recommend GigE camera.
USB3.0 can transmit about 5 Gigabit per second.
And security area prefers IP type interface. IP is used to compress images(H.264 or H.265) and transmits them to a long distance.
  • Q. [CAMERA] How do these cameras connect to a computer?

Depending on camera interfaces, cameras connect to a computer through PCI card or port built in PC.
As for GigE Intel NIC (Network interface card) prevails in markets, more than 8 cameras can connect to a PC.
Just the same with USB3.0, through USB3.0 PCI card more than 8 cameras can connect to a PC.
If you use a card fit to interface, you can freely plan to use multiple cameras and think of further escalation.
  • Q. [THE REST] What shutter speed do I need?

The shutter speed is used to eliminate blur in recorded images.
Blur is a function of movement of an object through the field of view during exposure, and movement of the camera usually by vibration.
One of the advantages of digital imaging for repetitive events is that trial and error may be used to quickly select an appropriate shutter speed.
Camera shutters are either mechanical or electrical. Just about all digital cameras now employ electronic shuttering

To capture a rapidly moving object precisely, proper shutter adjustment is necessary.

Nevertheless, if you use shutter and lighting you can obtain more distinct images.
  • Q. [THE REST] What is Trigger and Strobe?

In the use of vision camera, the user wants to obtain precise images at the moment he wants to rather than to capture every moments.
That's why the user uses Trigger functions to obtain the images he precisely wants to have momentarily from a rapidly moving target.
You'd better regard Trigger as a command word to capture images.
When Trigger moves, camera captures that moment and transmits images.
At the moment images are captured, in line with exposure time lighting is up, and it is dubbed Strobe.
Thus Trigger and Strobe are signals occurring simultaneously.
In vision camera, they are mapped in I/O signals. Trigger is input signal and Strobe, output signal.
  • Q. [CAMERA] What determines image quality in a digital camera?

Image quality starts with the sensor.
IMI-TECH cameras use excellent sensors from Sony, OnSemi. But the sensor is just the beginning.
The actual camera design is a high wire balancing act trading off physical size, heat, internal and external noise, channel transfer rate, algorithms and a host of other subtle nuances that can negatively effect ultimate image quality.
We believe that when you evaluate an IMI-TECH camera, you will be impressed with the image quality that these cameras deliver.
  • Q. [APPLICATIONS] What software is usually provided with a digital camera?

IMI-TECH cameras come with an image acquisition software.
This software contains a Driver, Demo Software and an Neptune API Library which facilitates executing the many various camera commands.
Sample are included so that even beginners can easily use them.
And 3rd party SWs such as Matrox, Cognex, NI, Halcon can be interchanged.
  • Q. [PERIPHERAL] How many ports should I use when I operate USB3.0 card PC?

When you operate one PC, you should use 2ports, and if you operate more than two, you should use 4 ports.
Also, as you use ports, industrial cable must be employed.
We don't recommend other company's unauthorized cable, and advise to use ours.
